LOS ANGELES (AP) – Len Blavatnik’s Access Industries is buying Warner Music Group Corp., the world’s third-largest recording company, for about $1.3 billion.
The companies said Friday that the purchase, for $8.25 a share, will include the assumption of about $1.9 billion in debt.
The deal comes amid a global decline in CD sales that continues to weigh down the industry.
U.S. recorded music sales are half what they were a little over a decade ago. Digital sales gains have started to flatten and CD sales continue to fall.
That means the 53-year-old Blavatnik will have to cut further and hope that a new wave of innovation will carry digital music sales higher. The former board member was part of the group that bought the company in 2004 and still owns about 2 percent.
Jay-Z Could End Up In Court Over 'Big Pimpin' Sample
Rapper Jay-Z could end up in court over a new lawsuit that claims the rap mogul illegally used a sample in his hit 2000 song "Big Pimpin."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jay-Z is being sued by the family of Egyptian composer Baligh Hamdi, who wrote the song "Khosara, Khosara" for a 1957 Egyptian film named Fata Ahlami.
Hamdi's children are suing EMI, MTV, Paramount Pictures, UMG and Warner Music over the track.
Although Jay-Z's team obtained a license to use the song under United Statescopyright law, the lawsuit claims he didn't have the proper rights to loop and rap over the sample.
The lawsuit claims that although Jay-Z obtained a license to use the sample, he didn't have the rights to loop the sample and rap over it under Egyptian copyright laws.
Jay- also failed to get permission from all of Hamdi's children, who each own an interest in the composition.
The lawsuit was originally filed in 2005 and was dismissed in 2007, because all of the owners of the rights to the song were not listed in the original court filing.
Big Pimpin' was featured on Jay-Z's hit album, Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter., which has sold millions of copies.
Hamdi's children are seeking an unspecified amount in damages.

Capone Asks 50 To Stay out of Beef
(AllHipHop News) Rapper Capone has asked 50 Cent to steer clear of his growing beef with Mobb Deep, who were formally signed to G-Unit and are still close associates of the G-Unit frontman.
Capone has been lashing out at Prodigy in various clips on the Internet, over allegations made in P's new book, "My Infamous Life: The Story of Mobb Deep's Prodigy."
In the book, Prodigy accuses Capone of veteran rap group Capone-N-Noreaga (CNN), of going to court and testifying against Havoc's brother, Killer Black.
Prodigy's comments and his refusal to back down from the allegations, have sent Capone on a mission to clear his name.
"50, 50, I am asking you stay of this please, my ni**a. I got love for you, you're from Queens, you're a Queens ni**a like me, but just this is not a situation which - at the end of the day, it's hammer time."
Capone Says Why Didn t Prodigy Ever Call Him A Snitch To His Face!
The beef seems to be growing as well, in intensity. Former associate and Bars-N-Hooks member Mike Delorean also chastised Prodigy for calling out Capone in his tell-all book.
Mike was also mad that Prodigy talked about him in a few chapters in the book, which included comments about his mother, and accusations that Bars-N-Hooks robbed Havoc.
"P you was a wankster, you talking about things you don't even know. you wildin' talking about ni**as mothers. You talkin' about ma dukes and she's resting in peace. Man, the goons are on your head," Mike Delorean said.
Capone offered an explanation as to why he ended up on the stand, testifying against Killer Black.
"I got caught in a situation, and I gave a false statement [to police]. I lied. Come to find out, the motherfu**ing statement came back, they tried to use me as a witness. But I lied. I wasn't Killer's co-defendant, I wasn't there when the crime happened, I aint speak to him after. But I didn't put nothing in there to incriminate nobody. The n***a you say I snitched on was running in the streets with me. Get your facts right."
