Lil Boosie accused of trying to get codeine into Angola (NEWS)

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Louisiana State Police has filed charges against Baton Rouge rapper Lil Boosie related to trying to smuggle drugs into prison.

Troopers said Torrence Hatch, 28, and two others were allegedly in the process of trying to get codeine syrup into the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola.

The other suspects were identified as Titus Franklin, 27, and Arthur Stewart, also 27. All three men are from Baton Rouge.

LSP detectives and the East Baton Rouge Violent Crimes Unit reported receiving information the trio was conspiring to smuggle the Schedule V Dangerous Controlled Substance (CDS) into Angola, where Hatch is incarcerated.

Investigators said Stewart and Franklin made arrangements through an undercover agent to have the codeine delivered to Hatch.

All three men have been charged with conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institution.

Hatch was also charged with inciting a felony.

Franklin faces an additional charge of distribution of a Schedule V CDS.

Lil Boosie is being held on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Terry Boyd.

Indytrack Throwback - Whats Beef? - Notorious B.I.G ( Happy Birthday B.I.G )

WIKI: Christopher George Latore Wallace (May 21, 1972 – March 9, 1997) was an American rapper. He was popularly known as Biggie Smalls (after a character in the 1975 film Let's Do It Again), Big Poppa, and The Black Frank White (after the main character of the 1990 film King of New York),[1] but primarily by his stage name The Notorious B.I.G..

Wallace was raised in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. When Wallace released his debut album Ready to Die in 1994, he became a central figure in the East Coast hip-hop scene and increased New York's visibility at a time when West Coast artists were more common in the mainstream.[2] The following year, Wallace led his childhood friends to chart success through his protégé group, Junior M.A.F.I.A.. While recording his second album, Wallace was heavily involved in the East Coast/West Coast hip-hop feud, dominating the scene at the time.

On March 9, 1997, Wallace was killed by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. His double-disc set Life After Death, released 15 days later, hit #1 on the U.S. album charts and was certified Diamond in 2000 (one of the few hip hop albums to receive this certification).[3] Wallace was noted for his "loose, easy flow",[4] dark semi-autobiographical lyrics and storytelling abilities. Since his death, a further two albums have been released. MTV ranked him at #3 on their list of The Greatest MCs (Rappers) of All Time.[5] He has certified sales of 17 million units in the United States.[6]

Wale Talks Signing To Maybach Music (VIDEO)

Wale provides some insight into the inner workings of MMG, as well as his thought process during his war of words with Kid Cudi.

Wale has made big moves as of late, most notably signing to Rick Ross' Maybach Music imprint. In a recent interview with Karmaloop TV, Wale addressed what his new musical home is like.

"The work ethic on Maybach Music on the music side and the film side is just out of this world," explained the Washington, D.C. native. "It's competitive. Don't nobody want to be the least hard-working person in the crew. Ross sets the tone for everybody, and we just follow."

The DMV emcee also appeared to address criticism that he is switching up his image by aligning himself with Rick Ross' camp. "From the jump, I've always experimented with different types of music. Whatever was now, whatever was back then, you're talking to a guy who rocked on SWV to Gnarls Barkley, to Justice, to Go-go music, to Reggae songs...I can rap on anything. That's what emcees are supposed to do. It's about versatility to me, at least as far as the skills go. The album is very versatile. Maybe too versatile. And I'ma continue to be that way."

Wale also touched on his brief beef with Kid Cudi. "The situation with me and Cudi, it was unfortunate, but we fixed it...What I learned from that is how ugly people can be. I would Twitter search my name and his name and see the things my fans were saying to him and his fans were saying to me. I was like, 'Man, it was all good a week ago!'"

Rick Ross Explains Inspiration Behind Meek Mill's "Tupac Back"

The Teflon Don and Wale shared that some listeners don't even know who Tupac is.

Rick Ross scored another smash with his feature on Meek Mill’s “Tupac Back,” paying homage to the fallen legend. The Maybach Music Group leader explained that the record was conceived as a tribute to ‘Pac and the impact he had on the game.

“[It was] really paying homage to Tupac. Sitting in the studio, a lot of times I think of different approaches and I think of different artists and that’s what the vibe was of that record,” Ross told MTV2’s Sucker Free. “Tupac was such a huge influence on the musical level as well as outside of music. A lot of times, I be thinking if Pac was alive, he’d be in politics now.”

MMG member Wale added that the younger generation might not know about his legacy unless they do their research. “It’s been 15, 16 years since he died. That means if you’re 20, you really don’t connect unless you do your history,” he said.

Rozay echoed his sentiments, stating that he was shocked by how many people don’t even know who he is. “That surprised me most with the record. We put the record out, I was surprised how many people was asking, who is Tupac? On Twitter, on the blog, who is Tupac?” he said. “There are some people that the only people that they familiar with is Wayne and newer,” said Wale. “That’s it. Not even Block is Hot Wayne.”

Ross added, “I’m a firm believer that if you gon’ play basketball, you need to know who Jordan is.”

Limewire Settles Out Of Court With Four Major Labels For $105 Million

The fight is over, as another downloading giant concedes to the RIAA for a nine-figure settlement.

Media downloading platform Limewire has settled out of court with the four major music labels for a reported $105 million, according to RIAA reports. The settlement follows a similar $115 million dollar settlement against Kazaa in 2006.

The damages, including personal liability money from Limewire founder Mark Gorton, is for damages against stolen media from the labels.

RIAA chairman Mitch Bainwol released the following statement: "We are pleased to have reached a large monetary settlement following the court's finding that both Limewire and its founder Mark Gorton are personally liable for copyright infringement," Bainwol said. "As the court heard during the last two weeks, Limewire wreaked enormous damage on the music community, helping contribute to thousands of lost jobs and fewer opportunities for aspiring artists."

Limwire has said to be planning a relaunch, despite being found guilty of copyright infringement last year.

Nas Announces His Tenth Solo Album

Nas may not be putting out Lost Tapes 2, but promises to deliver with his forthcoming solo album. The Queens, New York rapper spoke with Billboard.com about progress to the follow-up to 2008’s Untitled, claiming that he’s in a new state of mind and is inspired by new cats in the game.

“The last record I did was, I was in a different place than I am now,” he said. “Now, I’m happy to express that different place and I’m just happy about music. I’m watching everyone do their thing, young guys, women, artists just doing they thing.”

Naming Odd Future, Lil Wayne, Drake and more as current influences, Nasty Nas said that his tenth solo LP doesn’t yet have a concept. “My new album that I’m working on is free flowing,” he said. “At this point, there’s not one concept that sums up the whole record. I’m just flowing. It’s really too early to tell who I’ll be collaborating with.”

He also acknowledged that Untitled wasn’t an entirely solid record, and that he’s learned from his mistakes. “I don’t want to look back on this record – because I can look back on my last record and I know that record, some songs didn’t belong there. I really overthought it. I don’t want it to be like that on this record,” he continued. “I want to be able to play this next record after it’s done and feel like I did it. I have to do something that’s new. It’s just in me. I have to do something that feels like it’s right right now, and it could last.”

Juvenile Reflects On The State Of Hip-Hop

Juvy gives his two cents on the game and how low cash-flow has hurt the rap community.

Juvenile came up as one of the flagship artists for Cash Money Records, but the game ain’t the same for the Louisiana rapper. Juvy recently explained how money doesn’t flow like it used to, and that hip-hop artist aren’t the only ones feeling the sting.

“I wish it was making more money, man. I can’t judge cats out there who doing they thing,” he told Southern Smoke TV. “Of course, I’m a [Lil] Wayne fan first, and everybody else fall behind that. But it’s a whole lot of rap that’s not good rap out there. Probably better music than my era but they not getting paid for it. I wish there was another way we could get some revenue in. The show money ain’t even like it was because street niggas ain’t eating like they used to eat.”

He continued by explaining the trickledown effect that low revenue can have on club owners. “It’s ugly all the way around,” he stated. “I’ll show you where it hurts us now. Of course, a lot of those cats are the cats who spend money on booking us shows and buying music. But when all that’s sold out, it kind of hurts man, especially the club owners saying they ain’t making no money because they ain’t selling no alcohol. All of that is kind of a trickledown effect for what’s going on right now.”

The former Hot Boys member most recently signed to Rap-A-Lot to release his next album.

50 Cent Explains Beefs With Diddy and Jadakiss, Promises New Album

G-Unit's General speaks on the state of his relationships with Jadakiss and Diddy and explains why he won't release an album he's completed.

50 Cent recently spoke on why he has an album in the vault that he will not release and why he has chosen to reconnect with former rivals. The head of G-Unit recently met with Funk Flex at Funk Flex Full Throttle, a new show on MTV. The inaugural episode featured 50, who also ensured fans that he is nearly finished with a new disc.

When asked about his work to mend relationships with former rivals, 50 said he felt it was necessary at times. He also added that certain beefs were never personal.

"Some of it is Hip Hop. It's just the competitive nature of the art form. Like with Jadakiss' situation, that was just Rap. I don't have a reason [to beef]. When you look back at it, when two years go by, and you say, 'Why don't I like them?' And you can't remember why, then you know it's Rap."

This led to a discussion around Diddy, someone 50 has had words with in the past. Their feud began when he spoke about extorting Diddy on "How to Rob," saying he'd "snatch Kim from Puff." Later, their feud escalated when Fif said Diddy was not "biggin' up his brother," but added that he was only giving love to the Notorious B.I.G. as a form of "biggin' up his bank." He also compared the head of Bad Boy to a "bitch" in a separate interview. Diddy also shared his displeasure with 50 Cent by saying his "breath stinks," adding that he's "ashy" and that he's "a sucker," before calling him a "hating ass crab." However, now it seems the two are on good terms.

"I'm not upset with [Diddy] at all," he said smiling, adding that they speak on the phone from time to time. "He'll call me like, 'What's the next move, playboy? Why I feel like you doing this?' And I'm like, 'Nah, nah, it ain't nothin'.'"

Aside from rehabilitating relationships with Hip Hop peers, 50 has also been working on a lot of music. During his interview, he also added that he is presently working on a brand new album, one that will replace a disc that is already in the can.

"I'm working on a record now. I'm almost done," he noted. "I recorded a whole album before this one that I kept...Because I want to make sure it's completely up to my standards. I'm critiquing myself.

Gucci Mane To Be Released From Prison In June

In addition to getting out of jail in 45 days, Gooch will also be freed from his probation.

Gucci Mane has been sitting behind bars since April after pushing a woman out of a moving vehicle, but he’ll be back on the streets next month. The Atlanta, Georgia rapper will be released from prison in June and his probation will end by the end of that month.

“Gucci appeared in a Fulton County courtroom on Monday afternoon and in less than an hour, our attorney Mark Issa prevailed,” Gucci’s publicist told MTV News. “Gucci will not only be released in 45 days, but will also end his probation by the last days of June upon his release from jail. Gucci looks forward to getting back into the studio and on with his life. Gucci thanks all his fans for the overwhelming love and support they have given.”

His current incarceration stems from an incident that took place in January, when he picked up a woman at the South DeKalb Mall and subsequently pushed her out of his car when she refused to accept $150 to go to a hotel with him. He was arrested in April during a meeting with his parole visitor on misdemeanor battery.

Young Guru Talks Jay Electronica

Roc Nation's Young Guru talks his involvement on Jay Electronica's debut LP and offers advice to UK rappers.

DJ Semtex recently caught up with Roc Nation mixer and engineer Young Guru to discuss how artists from the United Kingdom can work their way into the American market. He says that while UK artists should reach out to more blogs and websites to publicize their music, he feels the most important aspect of breaking the US market is representing the UK music scene to the fullest extent possible. Using the emergence of west coast Hip Hop in the late '80s as an example, Young Guru says that more listeners will respond to the originality of the UK Hip Hop scene as long as it's not misrepresented.

"[My advice to UK rappers is] just to be unique and to represent your own sound," he said. "This is not to critique the UK, [but] what I saw [when I first came over to the UK] was a bunch of Jay-Z clones for a second. People were taking that style. I don't want to hear that; I want to hear what it's like to be in the UK. That was the thing about about Hip Hop that I loved, because early on, I lived on the east coast. My whole life was New York down to D.C. I didn't really go anywhere else. So then when west coast music came out, it was like a way [for] us [to understand] what was going on with our brothers out on the west [with the] gang lifestyle, which we had no information or knowledge about. That's the power of the music: it can really express who you are, but not if you're trying to copy something else. I would want the UK artists to use their own slang [and] do what really feels right for them, and then that way, I can get to know what is to be in the UK from their perspective...it's just about being yourself and representing."

During the video interview, Guru also talked about his involvement in Roc Nation signee Jay Electronica's long-awaited debut album. Guru said that while he's keeping involved with Electronica's release for business purposes, he also wants to ensure that the LP gets released for personal reasons.

"Technically, I'm over here just checking on Jay Electronica," he explained. "As everybody knows, he's signed officially now to Roc Nation. He's been fam for a minute, but now, it's business fam, too, so I'm just checking on him and making sure his project is going good. He doesn't need to be baby-sat, but just the technical things he doesn't need to worry about, sample clearance and just making sure he's cool. His project is real special to me, obviously, because I love him as an emcee."

Guru also discussed who are his favorite rappers hailing from the UK. He cited London-born emcee Giggs as one of his personal choices, saying that he feels his presentation of UK music is wholly authentic.

"I like Giggs a lot," he said. "I'm getting to know everybody else [from the UK], but Giggs is the person [who] seems authentic to me. And the presentation of his music is very creative. A couple of US guys picked up on him, but I wasn't aware of him. So then when I got over here, I started listening to a lot of his stuff, and I think he's dope. I would really like to work with that kid."

The full interview can be seen below.

T.I. To Be Released From Prison September 29

T.I. is coming home. The incarcerated rapper, born Clifford Harris, Jr., will be released from Arkansas’ Federal Correctional Institution Forrest City Low on September 29, 2011 after completing his 11-month sentence for violating his parole.

The Atlanta, Georgia lyricist began serving his bid on November 1, 2010. The sentence stems from a drug arrest made in Hollywood, California in September, when police pulled him and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle over for making an illegal U-turn. A search of the vehicle turned up contraband materials, which led to the couple’s detainment.

The Grand Hustle Records honcho did not face drug charges in the case, but plead guilty for violating his parole. He had only recently been released from prison after serving his time for a prior weapons conviction.
